We had a great five days in Barcelona, in fact so much so that this section is divided into a couple sections:

Separate posts - exceptional or Michelin food related posts consisting of Lomo Alto, Dux, Escriba, Passadis del Pep, Xerta and Lasarte

The next day we got up to head to the famous Sagrada Familia, a basilica that Gaudi was the designer and architect and is still being completed.

We went around to the other side to get our ticket and head inside. The exterior is incredibly ornate, the detail is amazing, but the style doesn't do anything for me. This would change once we got inside...

While standing in line to get our audio guide, I spotted this statue and got a chuckle, it's almost like a foreshadow of people on their tablets.

ree

Incredible detail

ree

The columns, detail and thought that went into the design is very impressive.

ree

The stained glass cast amazing light inside.

The intricately cast and sculptured door on the Passion side.

Back inside to see the crypt.

ree

And with that we wrapped up our tour on the Passion side. We were very impressed, much more so than we were originally expecting and want to return on another trip to check out more detail now that we had an introduction.

ree

We headed to the Hotel Ayre's rooftop nearby to get a semi-bird's eye view of the Sagrada.

ree

After the Sagrada, we headed down to the beach to go to an amazing paella place called Escriba, check out this post for lunch.

ree

After lunch we headed into the Born district and the walk along the water and into town was easy and relaxing.

ree

Some interesting sculptures along the way...

ree

We headed into the Parc de la Ciutadella and strolled around.

ree

ree

The zoo is directly adjacent, but we didn't check it out this trip.

A great little pond in the park.

ree

And a big duck

ree

After relaxing a bit by the water, we wandered out of the park and to the Picasso museum.

ree

ree

The Picasso museum was really cool and they walk through lots of works through his life. They didn't allow cameras, so no pics and you'll have to use your imagination.

ree

And an afternoon gelato.

ree

We headed back to our hotel after the gelato.

ree

We enjoyed the last bit of afternoon on the rooftop of the hotel with awesome views.

ree

We went to a fantastic and fun seafood restaurant called Passadis del Pep, follow this link for that.

The next morning we got up to explore more of the city and other museums.

ree

ree

ree

We headed into the heart of the city to see the Barcelona history museum.

ree

ree

Amazing backdrop with the central basilica in the background.

ree

The museum was great, starting with the formation as a Roman outpost, into a full fledged city. I was most interested in the Roman times and enjoyed the artifacts.

ree

Below they had excavations of the old Roman city, amazing to see the ducting for water back then.

ree

Example what a larger home would look like back then.

ree

What would have been a cold bath.

ree

Old stills used to make wine back in the day, definitely a party room!

ree

Back upstairs and the origins of the first church in Barcelona.

ree

Out of the museum and back into the Gothic quarter.

ree

We headed back to the square with restaurants and had a glass of wine.

ree

Some kids playing with a soccer ball in the square.

ree

On our way back to our hotel, MsFlamingo was drawn into another of the bright shoe stores.

ree

We got ready for dinner and walked to Xerta, you can check out the dinner experience here.

Pictures from the walk to the restaurant.
