At the recommendation of a family friend in Zurich, they suggested for great and fresh seafood to try Passadis del Pep in the Born district.

The restaurant is towards the waterfront, but in the old town area. It was filled with locals which is always a good sign no matter where you are in the world.

Our waiter was awesome, super friendly and jovial. He simply asked if there were any allergies and said he'd take over all ordering for the evening. Simple place settings had the right mix between rustic and refined, the best way to describe it was I felt like we were in a Bourdain episode.

ree

They brought out a complimentary half-bottle of cava to start, nice touch.

ree

The first dish he brought out was jamon iberico with pan con tomate (bread with smeared tomato and olive oil). No better way to start a meal.

ree

Next up were very fresh local oysters with a light vinaigrette and lemon wedges.

ree

I know we were having fish, but we are fans of reds and had a lovely Rioja, it was really nice and I realized it was the same one I'd had at Robuchon in Shanghai ironically a couple months ago.

ree

Next up were razor clams, a first for both of us. MsFlamingo was not a fan and I thought they were ok, nothing I'd ever seek out to eat.

ree

Next up some flash fried padron peppers, nice intermezzo.

ree

Next up, fried sardines and shrimps. Both were excellent and incredibly fresh. You can eat both fully because the bones and shells are so small and shells crispy.

ree

Next up were fresh mushrooms in a madeira style sauce with an egg yolk with grated truffle.

ree

Look at that beauty!

ree

These were absolutely fantastic, since MsFlamingo isn't a big mushroom fan, I gladly finished off the plate.

ree

Next up were langoustines (think mini lobsters that are even sweeter) with sautéed onions over them, absolutely tasty.

ree

Red prawns that were so incredibly fresh and sweet, the heads in particular were incredible.

ree

Then our waiter asked if we'd like some fish and why of course we would, but what type... Well he brought out fresh hake caught earlier that day and we all got a huge kick out of it.

ree

For our final main, we had the fresh hake over roasted potatoes and a leg of goat (because why not) with fries. All were amazing.

ree

At this point we were stuffed and he brought out the desserts which consisted of a custard over berries done with a brûlée style and small dessert bites, all of which were as good as they looked.

ree

What a fantastic meal and our server brought out two digestifs to try. The clear one was ok, almost vodka like and the green one was really nice, herbal and helped settle the stuffed feeling.

ree

We were so glad we tried Passadis del Pep, it was incredible food and super fun to let them decide what we should try. Do not miss this place when you visit Barcelona!
